Cómo funciona
How it works
- Nadie vende nada. Todo se regala, y cualquiera puede donar.Nobody sells anything. Everything is given, and anyone can donate.
Ask in the group. If we have it, we give a day and time to pick it up.
Members share. People with spare medicine at home are encouraged to offer it to other members.
Everyone is answered quickly. Emergencies and hospital requests are handled right away. Hospitals and clinics also receive medical supplies and much more.
It arrives in suitcases. Travelers, donors and groups visiting Cuba bring medicine. All the work is voluntary and no one is paid.
Nuestra historia
Our story
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuba was in the grip of a deep crisis. Medicines were scarce, and pharmacies and hospitals often had little or nothing to offer. Yashar, a foreign medical student studying in Havana, developed a life-threatening infection and was unable to find the antibiotics he needed. Two friends managed to share a few pills with him, and they were enough for him to recover.
But the experience left Yashar with a troubling question: What happens to people who have no money, no bank card, and no friends or contacts to turn to for help?
On his first trip outside Cuba after the pandemic, Yashar began asking family, friends, and acquaintances to donate medicines for people who could not find them on the island. The response was generous. He returned to Cuba with hundreds of pounds of new and used medicines.
He started a WhatsApp group where anyone could ask for the medicines they needed. If a medicine was available, it was given to the person who needed it. If it wasn't, Yashar reached out to contacts in Cuba and abroad to try to find it. His own apartment became the pharmacy.
As the group grew, so did the need for reliable medical guidance. Members began asking questions about their health and the medications they were taking. To help them, Yashar invited Eduardo, a surgeon and a knowledgeable physician who had taught him surgery during medical school, to share his expertise with the group. Eduardo joined from the very beginning, becoming an integral part of the effort.
Laura, a dentist, was among the group's most dedicated donors. Over time, she began distributing medicines within her own community. When Yashar graduated from medical school as a physician, Laura took over the day-to-day work of the pharmacy.
Today, the pharmacy operates out of Laura's apartment. At least twice a week, dozens—and sometimes more than a hundred—people come to collect medicines, often picking up supplies for several family members or neighbors at once.

Laura is a dentist by profession. She was one of the group's most consistent donors and often replied to other members to offer the medicine she had. Yashar reached out to thank her, they became friends, and he began giving her more medicine to distribute in her community. In 2024, when Yashar graduated as a physician from medical school, he asked her if she would please consider taking over the pharmacy, and she accepted enthusiastically. Today the pharmacy runs from her apartment and she does almost all of the day-to-day work: answering members throughout the day, organizing pickups, and getting urgent medicine to hospitals as quickly as possible. She is a volunteer, like everyone in the project.
Eduardo is a surgeon, a friend of Yashar and a very knowledgeable doctor. When Yashar was in his third year of medicine, Eduardo was finishing his surgery residency, and Yashar would join him in the operating room to learn. When the first group was created, many members were asking questions about their health and their medications, so Yashar asked him to share his knowledge. Eduardo agreed from the start and is still in the group, answering members' questions about their health and medications, guiding them, and helping direct the project.
